Beginner Guitar Group & 1-to-1 Spring 2017

Event description

Group Courses

Always thought about learning guitar but not sure if it’s for you? Put off by expensive lessons fees? These five week beginner guitar courses are designed to give you an affordable and accessible ‘taster’ of the wonderful world of the guitar.

The two group courses are Beginners and Beginners Continued. Both guitar groups are sociable, accessible and a great way into music.

Beginners – for those who are completely new to the guitar.

In five one hour group sessions our experienced and supportive guitar tutor Noel Maher will take you through some of the basics of popular guitar, and show you that learning to play can be a fun and rewarding experience!

Starting from the ground up, this course will cover everything you need to start playing tunes within just a week or two including how the guitar works, simple melodies and fingering, how to read guitar TAB (guitar-specific music notation) and the basics of chords and strumming.

Beginners Continued – For those who have already taken the beginners course or those who have some experience and want to brush-up their guitar skills.

This is an extension of the beginners course to consolidate and enhance your skills and repertoire.

Don’t own a guitar yet? Don’t worry – Brighter Sound can provide guitars for use during lessons. Please let us know if you need to borrow a guitar for the lesson.

1-to-1 Lessons

Open to adults and young people over 16*; a great 1-to-1 course of personalised lessons for all levels – from beginners to advanced.

“My lessons are relaxed and informal and cater for all levels and abilities. My approach is to personalise the learning for each student, catering for any musical style but at the same time to offer a structured, progressive way of learning and exploring creative sides of the guitar.” – Noel Maher

The course covers all the fundamental guitar skills and techniques, whilst remaining flexible enough to accommodate any students’ individual abilities and personal musical tastes.

Lessons are taught in two five week ‘blocks’.

During the first block (Jan-Feb)  you learn; fundamental techniques; to play some well known melodies and chord patterns: how to read basic guitar musical notation.

The second five weeks (March) will expand on what has already been learned, introducing some more diverse and interesting tunes, techniques and elementary theory.

After ten weeks, beginner students will have developed the skills and knowledge to develop their guitar playing independently and with confidence, and are welcome to return for further blocks of lessons at any time.

Noel Maher is an accomplished solo acoustic guitarist and teacher and performs as a solo artist regularly in Manchester. He was taught folk guitar by his dad, going on to explore styles ranging from Metallica to classical. He now specialises in fingerstyle techniques learning from greats such as Andy McKee, Erik Mongrain and Pierre Bensusan. He is passionate about passing on his knowledge and love for all things guitar.
