Event description

Led by Sarah Kekus who has been a music educator and workshop facilitator for over 25 years. Sarah is one of the founding members of Gamelan North and worked on the commissioning of a set of bronze instruments for the North of England from Solo in Central Java. This beautiful Javanese gamelan has enabled the development of several music projects working with participants from all walks of life.

Gamelan refers to one type of traditional music which is found in Java and the neighbouring island of Bali.Gamelan derives from the word 'gamel', to strike or to handle, and is a generic term referring to an ensemble which comprises predominantly of percussive instruments, metallophones and tuned gongs.
