This timely conference will examine the future for music education in England.
Policymakers and stakeholders will consider key issues for music education provision at primary and secondary level including what can be done and how to ensure the delivery of a well-rounded music education, how pupil uptake can be increased in the context of music not being an EBacc subject and ways in which teacher workload can be managed and standards maintained following an increase in non-specialist music teachers teaching the subject.
Following confirmation of continued government funding for Music Education Hubs until 2020, delegates will examine priorities for music hubs going forward - identifying how effectively they have coordinated the multiple elements of music education since their introduction in 2012, issues affecting their financial sustainability going forward, and the ways in which examples from alternative models to music hubs can be used to improve music hubs provision - in addition to highlighting examples of best practice in their implementation.
Further sessions assess how well existing pathways through music education are serving the needs of today’s students, steps that can be taken to increase the involvement of the music industry in education and how accessibility to music education can widened.
