Making Music in the Early Years

Event description

Prof Colwyn Trevarthen / Esther Sheridan / John Webb & Sing a Story / much more

Building on the success of our previous conference in June 2014, Music in the Round hosts a day-long event demonstrating the vital role that music can play in the development of children aged 0-5. A stimulating event for Early Years practitioners, setting managers, childminders, parents & carers, freelance musicians, and workshop leaders – whether or not they already make use of music with their children. Presentations, creative discussions, and performances will make the case for embedding music into young children’s everyday lives, and equip delegates with tools, ideas, contacts, and fresh confidence that will enable them to make the very most of music in whatever context they operate.

This day-long event is for all Early Years practitioners from across South Yorkshire and further afield. It will provide resources for delegates to take back and use immediately in their settings along with plenty of practical next steps.

Including:

▪ PROF COLWYN TREVARTHEN discusses the fascinating subject of young children’s innate musicality

▪ MAKING MUSICAL STORIES: expert Esther Sheridan leads a very practical session on how you can bring ANY story to life through music

▪ PERFORMANCE: “Sing a Story”, direct from London’s Wigmore Hall, features interactive music and storytelling based on stories and songs old and new *

▪ SOUNDPLAY: an interactive session based on Music in the Round’s pioneering ‘Soundplay’ project with EY children, including songs and games that everyone can use with their children straight away

▪ SONGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD with Babelsongs (bring yours to share!)

▪ Plenty of chances to connect with everyone else, sharing ideas & experience and finding new inspiration & contacts

▪ And much more!

* These two performances, at 10.45 and 1.30, will also be attended by several hundred EY children – if you would like to involve yours, please contact us!
