Guitars On The Beach - Being Part Of Britain's Biggest Band

B Sharp's Young Music Leaders will be helping to teach the chords to the songs to be performed by Britain's Biggest Band, made up by amateurs of all ages and ability, and professional music enthusiasts like you at this year's Guitars On The Beach, Lyme Regis on 6 September.

B Sharp are very pleased to be involved with this year's Guitars On The Beach in Lyme Regis, where over 3,000 musicians are expected to turn up and be Britain's Biggest Band, and possibly break the largest band world record.

Our Young Music Leaders will have the opportunity to expand their teaching experience, this time with mixed ages and abilities, helping them learn the chords to the 3 songs that will be performed by the record breaking band: Buddy Holly's 'Rave On' in G, 'Rocking All Over The World' in A and Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water' in G. If you want to take part, chord sheets and tabs and instructional videos are on the Guitar's On The Beach website. B Sharp will lead two workshop sessions for the songs between 11am-1pm and 1pm-3pm in the Fender tent. Fender are sponsoring the event and have given B Sharp 10 acoustic guitars to keep, and these will be used by us for the workshops and performance.

2,267 guitarists took part in the first Guitars On The Beach last year. This year it is hoped over 3,000 people will take part and join Ian Gillan as he breaks from Deep Purple's American tour to sing Smoke On The Water with the Guitars On The Beach house band who will lead all the musicians. While called Guitars On The Beach, any stringed instruments can take part. To help count those who participate, all musicians should register their presence at the desk in the Marine Parade shelters (between DT73JH and DT73JE for sat navs and Google maps).

As an organisation, taking part in community events like this helps raise our profile, broadens young people's experience and binds the town together. In addition to our Young Music leaders, we will be having B Sharp ambassadors spreading the word about our work, handing out leaflets and contact details. Having such a large scale event on our doorstep is not a coincidence. B Sharp can take some credit for setting a musical 'can do' mentality in our area and we have been told that the work of B Sharp was one of the triggers for initiating the event. It is heart warming to know that our work not only benefits young people, but also has more subtle effects in the adult world.

Do you want to join us? Come to Lyme Regis on 6 September for a musical weekend!
