UVG annual fundraiser attracts biggest crowd yet!

On the 13th December 2015 80+ singers from The Urban Vocal Group (UVG) took to the stage to perform their 5th annual concert at Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms.

Over three hours 66 young singers performed unique arrangements of contemporary songs including  ‘Uptown Funk’, ‘Story of my life’ and ‘Fix You’ as well as two original compositions;  all to a packed audience of over 300. They were joined on stage by local up and coming artist Jerry Williams and the concert also featured performances by The Adult UVG, a fee paying group who's profits all go back into supporting the UVG's activities for young people. UVG Director Charlie Fletcher said “This is the biggest concert that we have ever staged with the largest amount of young people involved. The commitment and enthusiasm of everyone, both on stage and off, was remarkable and testament to the life changing benefits that come from participation in music. The UVG are so grateful to have the support of Youth Music and will continue to do everything possible to help them achieve their vision of a musically inclusive England in which music-making is available to all children and young people”

The feedback from both parents and participants was also fantastic:

"It's crazy to think that I've only been [at UVG] for 10 months! I've done many gigs, recorded an EP, attended a two day song writing course, recorded and performed the song I co-wrote, saw behind the scenes of the UVG on work experience and so so much more! Two nights ago at the Wedge was amazing! Never would I have had the opportunity to do anything as brilliant as that with all these people and I wish everyone had  the same opportunities I have had and will have! "  - Alaina UVG Singer

‘It is rare to see true talent.

It is rare to see such enthusiasm from every single member of a large group. It is rare to see 100% commitment. It is rare for a sell-out performance to be so organised. Last night I witnessed all of this in one place. I feel honoured and humbled to have done so.’ - Parent

‘UVG thank you from the bottom of my heart! To see such joy and pleasure on my child’s face is better than any gift under my tree’ - Parent
