Singing Excellence

BlueJam Arts has been working with Soundwave and Brewery Arts on an exciting programme of vocal learning, experimentation and performance.

At our first residential last year the group wrote a track which incorporated all the people on the residential and the genres they were exploring. Working with Tom Leah from BlueJam they recorded an amazing rhythm track using sampled sounds from the laundry area which was their improvised studio and worked in vocal riffs (recorded with Dave Roberts from Soundwave) and created improvisations on "It Don't Mean A Thing" with jazz tutor Jilly Jarman from BlueJam, and some classical lines with Clare Eccles from Brewery Arts. You can hear the track below.

This March, BlueJam did a showcase at Jazz North Day at the Upfront Studios near Penrith, and our Young Songwriters performed their live version of the track (see video below).

The life of this track is not over however as the Transition Choir (450 of them) are also performing their own version of it in July and it will have its final performance at the Singing Excellence showcase at the Brewery in September.
