Music tech inventors, groundbreakers & trendsetters head to Brum

For only £50 everyone who is keen in creating a musically inclusive England will be congregating for a day to explore creative ways of using accessible music technology to engage with children and young people, particularly those most excluded.

 

 

The Enhancing Music with Technology Conference will take place on Thursday 12 February 2015 at MAC Birmingham, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham B19 9HQ from 9.30am – 4pm (registration from 9.00am). Aimed at all teachers, musicians and anyone interested in creative approaches in digital technology for primary and secondary school ages - from technophobes to technophiles.

Keynote Speakers are:

  1. Mark Williams MBE, Chief Executive, Heart n Soul
  2. Justin Spooner, Digital Associate, Heart n Soul
  3. Dr Ben Schogler, Creative Director, Skoog Music

Mark co-founded the arts organisation Heart n Soul in 1986 having already experienced a career as a full time musician and DJ.  Mark has embraced the opportunity to work with a wide spectrum of people including the elderly, children and young people and people with disabilities - running freelance music making sessions with a number of different agencies such as SHAPE, Artsreach, Age Exchange and the Lewisham Academy of Music. Throughout the last twenty four years Mark has been central to the strategic development of Heart n Soul, and has helped take it from a locally based touring company to an internationally respected creative organisation. Mark was awarded an MBE for services to Disability Arts in the New Year’s Honours list 2010.   Ben Schogler is a musician and psychologist. Ben is the Co-Founder of Skoogmusic Ltd and Co- Inventor of the Skoog – a colourful, soft and squeezable musical instrument which is designed for people of all ages and abilities.  His research in music, psychology and education has always placed movement at the heart of things.  Ben has over ten years’ experience in applying new technology to create useful and practical solutions in real world settings. Ben also completed a lectureship in developmental psychology at the University of the West Indies.

  3. Playing and performing in an iPad ensemble - facilitated by Jonny Amos
  4. Creating a new standard with Skoog - facilitated by Dr Ben Schogler
  5. DIY Technology Inventors Lab - facilitated by John Simmonds & Will Bailey
  6. SoundLad - facilitated by Justin Spooner & Mark Williams

Workshop sign up on the day only. First come first served. The conference schedule will allow for up to 4 workshop choices to be accessed.
