Music Bites Session 1 – An Introduction To Working With Special Educational Needs and Disabilities 4:00-6:30pm, 20th of January 2015 at Sage Gateshead.

Are you interested in working with young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities? Would you like to know more about this challenging, yet extremely rewarding area of music practice?

Sage Gateshead’s CoMusica Inclusion project will be hosting a FREE introductory session for anyone interested in working or gaining experience within this field. The session will be led by one of CoMusica’s highly experienced music delivery staff and will cover a range of topics, ideas, strategies and activities that can be used when working in this setting. The session is aimed at both experienced practitioners looking to diversify their own practice and emerging practitioners wishing to take their first steps into working with music and SEN/D.

This is a 2 hour training session with a focus on inclusive group practice and approaches to music-making with children, young people and adults with additional needs. This is a practical music making session modelling some of the methods used on the Community Music Spark training programme – Community Music Spark  This is aimed at music and non-music practitioners who have an interest in facilitating inclusive music- making sessions. It will help develop a musical toolkit/repertoire and there will be an opportunity to learn more about working in this environment. This will be led by Accessible Learning Programme Leader Matt Sokel and Support Musician Marc McAndrew.
