An opportunity for us and for the young people!

There is an international movement of community music and everywhere I travel I see a different side and aspect of the practice. Currently I am teaching for 2 days at the Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia after working on two conferences in Hong Kong and Auckland.

This coming weekend MORE MUSIC is producing a 24 hour Music Party @ LMF2017 with the aim of raising funds for our Homeless Action music programme in Lancaster.
People taking part in the music sessions describe how singing, in particular, has lifted their spirits  "the only reason I walk the planet” and restored their self-belief  "singing has really helped my confidence”

They also say it makes a significant contribution to their recovery from addiction  " helps me deal with the bad stuff that happens” and has helped them refocus and rebuild their lives, securing and maintaining a home and returning to paid employment.

I am at the end of third day of the Walking the Boundaries, Bridging the Gap Community Music conference here in Waterloo, Ontario. 140 people sharing research, case studies, playing and listening in the context of the only CM masters and undergrad courses in Canada.

Have a listen to a great song written as part of a recent cold spot project at More Music in Morecambe, working with the young people from the A.C.E (Achieve, Change and Engagement).

In January 2016 I was tasked with embedding arts award delivery across the whole of our youth music programme. The ultimate aim, that every young person we work with would have the opportunity to achieve an arts award. The challenge; actually putting this into practice and changing the way that we planned and delivered our sessions and projects so that the arts award was at the forefront of the initial planning process

It’s one thing to be able to arrive somewhere and deliver a music project with your own staff, the next step is to be able to create a sustainable project that can continue to exist after your organisation’s involvement has ended.

This recent project allowed More Music to achieve our 2 key objectives for cold spot projects : Skill development opportunities for new music leaders and progression for participants.
