The Sound and Music Summer School runs from 3 - 9 August 2014 at the Purcell School in Hertfordshire. It is for young composers and creative musicians aged 14-18 who will spend the week learning about all aspects of creating music, working with professional composers and musicians and using the speicalist facilities of the Purcell School. You will have the opportunity to work in your own style of composition, explore other ways of making music and have the piece you create performed and recorded.
Our composers and musicians have expertise in a huge range of music-making from conventionally-notated music to electronic music and from jazz to music for film. During the week, you will work in a group with composers and musicians who can work with you on your preferred style of music-making as well as having the opportunity to try out different styles and traditions.
This year's Key Tutors are: Kerry Andrew (composing for voice), Issie Barratt (jazz composition), Alison Cox (experimental and cross-cultural composition), Kuljit Bhamra (experimental and cross-cultural composition), Aidan Goetzee (music and sound for the moving image), David Horne (advanced instrumental composition).
We aim to nurture talented young composers based in the UK. We are looking for people aged 14-18 who can demonstrate their talent for composition, are enthusiastic about creating their own, original music and are keen to learn more!
The week costs £395. There is a means-tested grant system in place to ensure that everyone accepted onto the course is able to attend regardless of financial circumstances.
