Chesterton Parents Group is a voluntary community group that provides free of charge or low cost activities for under fives and their parents/carers in the east Chesterton area of Cambridge. We currently run Little Music Makers with the support of the Youth Music Trust, along with a weekly Soft Play group (Fridays) and the occasional Twins Group.

Our weekly music group (every Tuesday morning in term time), Little Music Makers, is supported by the Youth Music Trust. Held at Chesterton Methodist Church Hall it is open to all and free of charge. Little Music Makers provides the opportunity to sing and make music together, under the direction of our experienced music teacher, who also uses makaton sign language to engage with even the youngest children. The children also get the chance to play a variety of age appropriate musical instuments while parents/carers get to know each other. There are two sessions each Tuesday morning and each can cater for 25/30 children. Each session lasts 45 minutes (9-30 to 10.15; 10-45 to 11.30). The children and their parents/carers sit in a huge circle, children on laps and tiny ones in arms, and join in the nursery rhymes with actions and sing-along songs all designed to explore the senses of sound, touch and movement. Other activites involve 'Emily' the puppet, the 'parachute', props such as pom-poms, silk scarves, and bubbles from a machine. During the 30 minute interval children get to experiment with sounds and and develop their motor skills while controlling instuments, either independently or with parental help. .
