The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) is one of the world’s leading orchestras, giving performances characterised by energy, insight and vitality on period instruments. We embody the values of the Enlightenment, challenging existing ideas, championing innovation and approaching our music-making, which ranges from Monteverdi to Mahler via Mozart, with a constant spirit of enquiry. We work with internationally renowned artists, as well as nurturing the next generation of musicians.
Education is a cornerstone of the OAE, with strong partnerships in 10 cities across England, work with 12 music hubs and numerous venues.
Our activity is flexible and responsive and often looks different in each setting but always has at its heart the repertoire, instruments and players of the OAE and the young musicians we engage and inspire. Funded by Youth Music, Our Band is a programme of musical creativity providing young people with SEN/D with a unique opportunity to build a long-term relationship with a professional orchestra. In King’s Lynn, Southampton, Plymouth, Merton and Wandsworth we will form student Bands developing the creative, performance and personal skills of the young musicians in our partner special schools.
