Children in Leigh create a song and dance!

Community Arts North West’s (CAN) Kámoši Juniors Performing Arts project, funded by Youth Music and Children In Need, has been providing weekly music development workshops with children of Roma-heritage in the Wigan Borough of Leigh since October 2015.

Community Arts North West’s (CAN) Kámoši Juniors Performing Arts project, funded by Youth Music and Children In Need, has been providing weekly music development workshops for children aged 5 to 11 of Roma-heritage (mainly from Slovakia and the Czech Republic and, to a lesser degree, Romania) and other locally-based children in the Wigan Borough of Leigh since October 2015.

The children meet every Saturday morning, and so far 30 children have explored new songs, dance styles and performance techniques in the popular workshops. Impressively, the whole group have approached learning these new skills with huge creativity and enthusiasm.

A notable highlight of the project thus far has been the Christmas 2015 performance which received fantastic audience feedback. The group displayed significant talent and a high degree of musicality in the lively performance.

In 2016, we are excited to build on this success, bringing exciting new artists onto the project which will provide a platform for artistic-collaboration, and new and exciting music performances.

This project is being delivered in partnership with Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS), and Wigan Music Service who are providing music tuition in three local schools for over 20 children.

Please stay tuned to the CAN Youth Music Network blog for future video, pictures, feedback and audio clips.
