Community Music: A Power for Change

Community music and music education were at the centre of the conversation at the TEDx event in Lincoln late last year, as soundLINCS’ CEO Nikki-Kate Heyes MBE gave a fantastic speech on the topic “Community Music: A Power for Change”.

Nikki-Kate was one of just 20 speakers at the inaugral event, and in her talk energised the crowd and disucssed several examples of music’s ability to make real change to the lives of individuals and groups in the East Midlands and beyond, which she has witnessed in the 20 years since establishing soundLINCS in 1998.

The talk also explored the definitions of community music and the universal benefits that could be reaped from it for people of all ages and abilities, on their social, psychological and physical wellbeing, and much more.
