Early Years Music – mapping and consultation in Wiltshire

A summary of the key findings from my Early Years Music Mapping and Consultation for Wiltshire Music Connect has just been published.  The report is a first step for the Hub to identify different types of current provision across the county, issues and priorities for music specialists and settings, and how the Hub could potentially support EY music making.

The findings are grouped into 3 themes:

  • Workforce development and CPD for Early Years Music Specialists
  • Workforce development and CPD for Early Years practitioners and reception teachers
  • Stakeholders, partnerships and sector development.

Updates about how the Hub responds to the findings and recommendations will be featured in a new Wiltshire Music Connect early years webpage.  The key findings summary document can be downloaded here.

In addition to recommendations regarding the Hub’s a role in developing early years music, the report’s secondary purpose was to recommend settings and foci for a Soundwaves Extra Mini-Project.  Soundwaves Extra is a YM funded network, led by Take Art, to develop early years music across the South West.  By commissioning a mapping report, the Hub wanted to ensure that developmental projects were responsive to local needs.  As the Wiltshire Mini-Project evolves, the learning and development of partnerships will feedback into the Hub’s early years strategy.
