First phase complete-The Incredible Plastic Street Band

Outreach Phase Completed

The Incredible Plastic Street Band

In this final week of the school term, we have completed our schools outreach phase of this project and have, we think, tapped into a well of great musicianship and creativity amongst the young people in the area!  Reaching out to over 750 Key Stage Two students across five areas of Tameside, we have identified many of those whose schools currently have little or new music provision and whose children are not yet in receipt of any instrumental tuition.  All these children have had one hour of tuition on a pbone (plastic trombone) or ptrumpet (plastic trumpet).  They are now welcome join the main project, which is the formation of the thirty piece band: The Incredible Plastic Street Band.

Band rehearsals begin in two weeks time and will involve children from the five identified schools, local children who have signed up independently and young people from the local High Schools who are acting as mentors and assistant tutors.  Young people aged 12-25 from the Future Leaders project here at Global Grooves are also involved with creating uniforms, publicity materials and banners for the band.
