Hello,

I'm Henry and I'm the new Creative Apprentice here at Jack Drum Arts. I support the delivery of their Youth Music programme - 'Wear Making Music'. I perform in a variety of bands and on a variety of percussion instruments, being able to perform alongside musicians from all over the world and share my experiences with our participants. I am not professionally trained but thanks to Jack Drum my musical experience is rapidly expanding.

Hello,

I'm Henry and I'm the new Creative Apprentice here at Jack Drum Arts. I support the delivery of their Youth Music programme - 'Wear Making Music'.

I am a musician with a keen interest in Brazilian percussion and theatre. Before becoming employed by Jack Drum I was able to travel with them to Recife Brazil and experience Carnival, an experience that has ignited a passion for music and percussion. I have since joined their Samba Band, at times helping to lead, and helped them form their Maracatu Band in which I have learned a lot and gained a lot of skills. After a recent residency with premiere Maracatu drumming group from Brazil, Nacao Porto Rico, here, at Jack Drum Arts, I rapidly grew as a musician and found a real ability in playing the Alfaia drum, where rhythms are not defined by counting but by both the feeling of the music and the calls from other instruments.  I officially joined the team at Jack Drum Arts in July 2017 where I have been able to not only learn about different arts and performers but have been able to perform alongside, wonderful, world class musicians like Nacao du Maracatu Porto Rico. While I have been given lots of oppotunities to learn I have been given even more to teach and share my knowledge and my experience with a variety of different people from young children to skilled musicians in sessions such as World Music and in Creative performnce, where I have been able to join the music with my interest in theatre. It has been a fantastic experience so far and I have been blessed with opportunity ever since I started working with Jack Drum Arts. While I am not a professionally trained musician, thanks to the opportunities and experience I have had since I found Jack Drum, my musical experience is growing fast.
