Nature Notes and Nature Beats at The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum

The young people from the Nature Beats programme visited The Herbert in Coventry and were part of an experience that highlighted the gifts that nature brings through a beautiful journal illustrated by local naturalist, Angela Brazil in the early 20th century. Nature Beats has been featured as a part of the exhibition, with a digital immersive platform of experiencing the sounds in nature, as recorded by the young people in the project.

The young people visited the Nature Notes exhibition and were taken on a tour by the curator - Ali Wells. The tour explained the journal entries that were made by local naturalist Angela Brazil in the 1900's in Coventry. The illustrations added details to how things looked like and what local flora and fauna was around. It was interesting to note that red squirrels were aplenty in Coventry, which has now, all but disappeared. The young people had an opporunity to connect with the exhibits on a tactile basis and enjoyed the walk through natural history. They were very proud to see Nature Beats showcased in the exhibition.
