WILD Music Makes Me Happy Update

New and exciting equipment (a.k.a. new toys) have been arriving at the office ready for another year of Music Makes Me Happy. They bring with them lots of exciting ideas and plans for the new year. The new toy I'm most eager to start trialling is the Makey Makey Invention Kit. For those of you who haven’t heard of it before check out the video below. Essentially it is an invention kit which allows you to use everyday objects as touch-pads or in our case musical instruments.

The team have been looking at ways to incorporate the makey makey both as a stand alone segment in the sessions and how it can become a more interactive tool. How can it become more than just “ooo that’s clever”. How can it become a sensory activity, a music making device, a storyteller, amongst all the other possibilities the makey makey offers. If it was a piece of kit that could do all of these things then this would be it.

What else have we been up to, I hear you ask.

Well, the music team have been busy recording the mums and children singing at each of our 10 groups in order to produce a CD. This CD will include a favourite song from each group and a physical copy of the CD will be distributed to all of our families.

I’ve also been focusing on planning 3 training events for both WILD staff and our link workers with Children’s Centres. All of the training events will be focused on enabling workers to gain skills in delivering music with vulnerable families. We will focus on building confidence in music delivery, using instruments, voice and special 'Makey Makey' communication equipment to improve positive attachment and early speech and language skills.

In the midst of planning the training, if you were to attend a similar event what would you want to see on the agenda for the day? And what skills would you like to take away from the training?

We don’t currently have any external training opportunities on offer but if you were interested in attending training in music delivery then we would love to hear from you; comment below.
