New Music Project Launched in Greater Manchester

New creative hub for Greater Manchester's care experienced young people

Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) are thrilled to announce the launch of Boom Box, a new 12-month music production project to reduce the social isolation and increase the confidence and self-esteem of care experienced young people across Greater Manchester. Funded by Youth Music, the project will provide opportunities for looked-after children and care-leavers to create their own songs and music videos in a brand new studio, on site at GMYN in Ardwick.

GMYN creates opportunities so that disadvantaged young people from across Greater Manchester can take steps towards a positive future. Boom Box is a new addition to their portfolio of Care Experience Programmes and will be delivered in partnership with Memody CIC, a company that offers children and young people the chance to write and record songs with professional tutors.

Richard Driffield, Business Development Manager of GMYN, says,

Music-making activities can have huge personal benefits for care experienced young people. It can make them happier, calmer and more confident. Through song-writing, we will enable young people to cope with hard times, be proud of what they’ve achieved and to share experiences through the power of music.”

Tom Edney, CEO of Memody CIC, says, Memody are so excited to have the opportunity to not only collaborate with some of the brightest young talents in Greater Manchester, but also have a fantastic new creative hub in which to do so. Lots of great things are to come in the new music studio at GMYN, and Boombox is just the start!"
