Urban Orchestra Reading/Slough 2015/16

The first project phase of Readipop's new Urban Orchestra programme worked in Reading and Slough from September 2015 through to spring 2016.

The project centered around Reading & Slough has worked with young people via the following partners:

  • Highdown School
  • Reading Girls School
  • Cranbury College
  • Reading College
  • Henley College
  • Wexham School
  • Chiltern Edge School
  • SWIPE
  • Littleheath School

Young people were also recruited to the orchestra through partnerships with Berkshire Maestros - the Berkshire Music Hub, Slough Music Hub and Vocal Networking - a Reading based Hip Hop collective. 

The project has delivered CPD sessions with Berkshire Maestros' intern programme, Slough Music Hub's leaders and individual trainee young music leaders.

The first concert took place at Reading Concert Hall in January 2016 with a follow-up performance of excerpts from the in Slough in March 2016. Video clips can be seen at readipop.co.uk

The team have also delivered a series of 'Primary Roadshow' workshops with to over 300 pupils via promary schools in Reading and plan to take the Urban Orchestra experience to more schools after the summer holiday.

After the summer break, project continues alongside the new Urban Orchestra based in South Oxfordshire. There will be a new performance in November in South Oxfordshire and Oxford support the Oxfordshire UO followed by a new Reading/Slough performance in early 2017...
