Writing about my hometown

Have a listen to a great song written as part of a recent cold spot project at More Music in Morecambe, working with the young people from the A.C.E (Achieve, Change and Engagement).

These are young people with mental health and emotional issues who have been referred to them by schools and other agencies. They run one-on-one mentoring and group work to help participants build their confidence and self-esteem in a supportive and safe environment and wanted us to engage the young people creatively.

The project took place mainly over the latter half of the Autumn term.  The focus of the project was songwriting, performance and working towards Bronze Arts Awards (moderation will take place later this year, a number of participants completed their portfolios). The music leaders were Leroy Lupton and Sam Middleton, who wrote the song with the young people (the song was produced by Leroy).

For the song, they were asked to write something that focussed on where they were from and how they felt about it. Several of the participants performed the song live at a More Music young persons Christmas gig.

This was a follow up to an earlier project with the same group, you can read more about it here: http://network.youthmusic.org.uk/posts/working-achieve-change-and-engagement-morecambe
