Fifty thousand pounds has been awarded to Noise Solution to significantly enhance and evolve its impact capture analysis and use of digital storytelling, placing the organisation at the forefront of impact capture in our sector, UK and indeed worldwide. 

Working on the Concept days mixed old skills with new, the young people all seemed enthusiastic and keen to learn, their experience ranging from those with developing passions for music, though those wanting to build on school music classes, to some who had little experience at all.

Demonstrating impact is a hot topic. Terms such as outcomes framework, Theory of Change, Cost Benefit Analysis, causality and soft versus hard outcomes are increasingly commonplace and it can be overwhelming figuring out what this all means and how it applies to you. In music education evidencing impact is often a complicated business, and funders require different types of evaluation.

In January of this year I was given the chance to work as an intern for pedestrian. This wasn’t the first internship I had undertaken in an educational facility but it was the first time I would be working with the students and not behind the scenes as a technician.

On Monday 27th March 2017 the Musical Director, Amba Tremain, ran a Music Leader workshop for staff and volunteers from The Urban Vocal Group. The workshop covered many important topics involved with running a music session with young people; the room was full with potential tutors, volunteers and current UVG staff members. 

A summary of the key findings from my Early Years Music Mapping and Consultation for Wiltshire Music Connect has just been published.  The report is a first step for the Hub to identify different types of current provision across the county, issues and priorities for music specialists and settings, and how the Hub could potentially support EY music making. 

As external evaluators of Fund C, we are delighted to share some initial research findings and observations about what needs to be put in place for partnership-working to be effective and about its role in embedding inclusive music-making strategically and at scale.  

The Tri-borough Music Hub in London is leading a collaborative project to improve music-making provision for children aged 0-5. Tri-Music Together is offering training opportunities for teachers and music leaders working in Early Years settings (nursery schools; children’s centres; private, voluntary and independent nurseries) across the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster. It’s aiming to provide a joined-up approach to Early Years music-making in the area.

Its been a busy and exciting time for the Concept Music Project team and the young musicians and producers who have been taking part. With two of our 'Pop Up Studio' residencies completed and drop in sessions happening regularly in Corby and Leicester, we are looking forward to music making with more young creatives and pleased to be collaborating with a range of project partners throughout 2017 and into 2018. This is an initial reflection on our first residency at the Core in February.

Calling all performers, live music venues and volunteers! Make Music Day UK is coming on Wed 21 June.

Make Music Day is an international celebration which first started in France in 1982 and now takes place in over 120 countries and 750 cities across the world. Make Music Day UK aims to turn the country into a stage, and offer a full spectrum of performers the opportunity to display their musical skills.

In light of Youth Music's refreshed definition for Coldspots projects, I delved into the evaluation data we've received from Coldspots projects since 2014. I wanted to see what they could tell us about improvements in the confidence of participants of our funded projects, and noticed that there were many more instances reported of girls and young women showing improvements in confidence than boys and young men. I picked out some key points that emerged from my research to explore this further.
