Bedlington to Ashington Building Brass

To create 15 school based mini brass bands within the Bedlington and Ashington partnership which will then assist in the creation of community and youth based Brass Bands.

Working closely with schools and communities we aim to strengthen and provide progression routes for students following on from whole class first access instrumental tuition and providing opportunities for students to experience their local mining heritage and brass band traditions.

Following on from a successful Youth Music funded Bedlington Brass project, we will continue to build on the 10 well established school mini bands intoroducing greater performance opportunities and students will complete Discover, Explore and Bronze Arts Awards. this model will be adopted in the Ashington partnership.

During the three years of the project students will be involved in both joint large scale performances and school based concerts and while doing so will encourage students from their school to join the mini bands. We will also create two bras bands for the community to access in both Bedlington and Ashington. These will provide clear progression routes for students attending the chool mini bands and for students who then achieve a high enough level to join the existing community Brass Bands.
