A week-long music project for musicians, producers, beat-makers, DJs, freestylers and composers aged 16-25.
Brighter Sound and Manchester Central Library announce Found Sounds, a week-long music project for musicians with an interest in beat making, sampling, DJing, production and composition.
Mon 20 - Fri 24 Feb, Manchester Central Library
Application deadline: Fri 27 Jan, 8pm
Brighter Sound is looking for 15 musicians aged 16-25 to take part in an ambitious project from Monday 20 to Friday 24 February inclusive. Over the course of the week, participants will take over Manchester Central Library, and be given access to the incredible and precious archives housed in the library, including over 2000 audio files.
Collaborating with a team of skilled professional producers, the group will use the archives for inspiration, and respond to them, experimenting to create a modern day interpretation of what they find. The project will focus on urban and popular music, but will fuse together other genres based on the group’s skills and interests.
Musicians excited by the potential to use found sounds in new composition and with experience of beat-making, production, sampling, DJing, freestyling, remixing/ refixing or live instrumentals are invited to apply.
In addition, participants will be able to explore Manchester city centre to find new and alternative sounds to include in their productions.
The week will culminate in an exhibition and performance at Manchester Central Library.
All work created will be added to the archives for future generations to explore, and will be used as part of a ‘Live’ presentation in Manchester Central Library.
Manchester Central Library’s archives contain over 2000 audio files originally centred around Local Histories as well as recordings that position Manchester among the great music cities of the world.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to experiment with the sounds of Manchester’s rich musical history, create your own work with the support of professionals and create a lasting musical legacy.
It is free to take part but places are limited.
Applicants must be aged 16-25 and be from, or based in Greater Manchester.
Project dates: Mon 20 – Fri 24 Feb, 10am – 4.30pm each day.
