Standing Upright

A project aiming at young people developing skills and increasing independence through music participation

Standing Upright will focus on the needs of young people who are not in employment, education or training and see music as a means to further their career ambitions. The project will be delivered from Studio Y, a professional musical performance, rehearsal and recording studio based in North Tyneside. We will work with partners in the voluntary and community sector to identify appropriate beneficiaries and work with them to develop confidence and self-esteem through creative musical participation, performance and production. The quality of our high-class facility and delivery team allows young people to gain experience of different instruments, music-making apps, sound engineering, recording and production. This will be a 12 month project, with beneficiaries taking a numebr of 'stepping stones' from a position of low confidence, low self-esteem and lack of musical ability, achieving accreditations including arts awards level 1-3, ABRSM scales and go on to identify higher level arts qualifications. We also have the ability to identify gifted and talented young people, record their music and promote them towards employment/self employment as a musician. Following participation in this programme, a minimum of 25 core participants will have achieved increased independence and be able to 'stand upright on their own'.
