Singing in the early years

Selection of videos of music-making and singing in the early years.

Please take a look at these videos of tiny children singing and making music at Wallsend creche.

This is part of Tuneful Tots and Bouncin' Bairns, a one-year Youth Music project which is currently running in Howdon Chilren's Centre and Wallsend creche. I am the music leader and trainer.

I've been thinking more and more about how important it is to slow down, sing at a higher pitch and use repetition in the early years. Such an obvious thing which can often be forgotten, especially up north, where we have a tendency to speak very quickly!

I take a child-led approach and follow their lead, but sometimes it is hard to know when to intervene, sugggest something, or when to simply observe and open your eyes and ears to how competent tiny children are. They are already singers, dancers and independent learners.

What do you think?
