Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks, a project for young musicians in Brentwood, Essex got under way last weekend with two full days of workshops. Participants busied themselves creating a wide range of musical ideas based on material ranging from sports (both real and imaginary), to the number Pi (3.14159…)!

Josh is one of our Bright Sparks Apprentices, who have been receiving training prior to the project that has helped them become an integral part of our creative team. We caught up with Josh for his thoughts on the project so far:

“The events of the past weekend have been really enjoyable. The greatest fun for me happened when I and the other apprentices were able to work alongside participants, creating a marvellous sixteen bar tune in which everyone participated.

Working with other people to create and improve music has also been a great aspect of the sessions. Playing alongside the RPO team gave myself and many others a great buzz and workshop leader Tim Steiner created the most spectacular arrangement of instrumental harmony! Of course the sessions also included the occasional mad event, for example, a musical game of passing the relay baton called ‘Lazy Baton’.

Overall one of the most enjoyable and productive weekends I have ever had and I am looking forward to the next one!”

Bright Sparks will continue with a further session next weekend, working towards a performance at Brentwood’s Gone Global on Sun 1st July at The Brentwood Centre. See the Sparks Will Fly website for further details.
