Carefree Music Makers

About

Carefree works with young people, ages 11-25, who are in and leaving care. Our aim is to give young people in and leaving care the chance to do things for themselves and others.

We support young people by engaging them in positive social education activities. We work across the whole of Cornwall and offer positive activities, events and projects that help young people develop their social and emotional skills so that they have a better chance of growing up into positive healthy citizens.

We place young people’s participation centrally in all our work. We were founded by a group of young people in and leaving care; young people remain in the lead of our work. Our Music Makers programme is a core strand of our ongoing work. We offer young people the opportunity to explore and make music with their peers in a supportive and fun environment and together we decide on the forms of music the programme will explore, the venues where we meet, and the timings of the sessions. We run regular evening music sessions and intensive holiday camps, offer opportunities to attend live events, and organise performance and recording days. We offer a range of accredited qualifications alongside our creative music programme including Arts Award.
