The English Folk Dance and Song Society's Education department works to raise the profile and develop the practice of folk music, dance and other arts within education. It creates and delivers creative learning projects for children, young people and adults, in formal education and community settings, at Cecil Sharp House, across London, and around the country, often in partnership with other organisations. This includes The Full English, its recent national digital archive and learning project funded by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund through which it worked with schools and cultural organisations across England. EFDSS’ current work with youth folk music includes the London Youth Folk Ensemble, Get Your Folk On! holiday courses, and projects with schools and London Music Education Hubs.
It has recently received funding from Arts Council England, as part of EFDSS’ National Portfolio Organisation funding agreement 2015 – 2018, towards developing a new National Youth Folk Ensemble, for talented young folk musicians from across England.
