I'm Katy Robinson, and I've been the Research and Evaluation Assistant at Youth Music since April 2015. I process and analyse the evaluation data submitted to Youth Music by our grantholders, as well as using that data to inform our knowledge on particular areas of practice, and to communicate our impact as a funder. I'm often also involved in extra bits of desk research and data collection to inform our practice more - including our annual Stakeholder Survey, and other surveys about topics related to music education that are important to us. I have recently authored an evidence review on music making in healthcare settings, which can be found in the links below, and I am currently working on a second review of how Youth Music funded projects can contribute to young people's wellbeing
My other research interests include cultural/artistic engagement in adult life (namely the benefits of and reasons behind engaging in cultural activity), and music making in the Early Years. Before beginning my post at Youth Music I worked as a Research Assistant on an AHRC-funded Cultural Value project with Prof. Stephanie Pitts at the University of Sheffield, exploring the idea of cultural value from the perspectives of lapsed and partial musical/arts participants.
Outside of the world of research and evaluation, I am a keen musician myself, and regularly sing and act in amateur plays and musicals. I also sit on the Board of Trustees for Geoids Musical Theatre, an amateur musical theatre society in London.
