Second Wave

About

Set up in 1982, and based in Deptford, SE London, Second Wave's studio and rehearsal space offers a safe, creative meeting place for young people.

Our weekly, year-round youth arts programme is led by the creative intelligence of young people. The themes of our work reflect the reality of young people's lives in a demanding urban environment.

From our base in Deptford, and other outreach settings, our productions, platform events and speakeasy’s aim to break down stereotypes, bring people together and enhance local democracy. Our work is cited by the Home Office as an example of Best Practice.

Saturday and after-school programmes develop young people's confidence and skills through accessible and affordable workshops in drama, singing, dance, rap/lyrics, new writing, music, visual arts and production.

Our unique young women’s programme offers a regular, safe meeting place for young women to develop their confidence and creativity and begin to tell their own story using music, song writing, drama, lyrics and spoken word.

We offer accredited training for local young people to train as youth arts community leaders and pathways to higher education and employment through paid traineeships.
