Tang Hall SMART Community Interest Company deliver a wide range of weekly music clubs and classes for the local community, and also to disadvantaged groups in the wider York area. We focus on popular music genres such as rock/rap. Current weekly provision includes: 2 x Junior Rock School clubs, Baby Rockers, 3 x Teenage Music Clubs (one targeting young people who have learning disabilities) - plus accredited music classes to young people at Danesgate pupil referral centre, and Applefields Special School. We also have a course for young people not in education, employment or training. In addition to our clubs and classes we run gigs and concerts, and one-off workshops. We have two social aims - one is to benefit the people of Tang Hall, a disadvantaged part of York, which we do by delivering a range of music clubs and activities for children, teenagers and adults. Our second aim is to benefit people in the wider York area who are disadvantaged by either learning disabilities, or a combination of homelessness/ mental health problems/addiction/long-term unemployment/ex-offender. We run our SoundSMART course for young adults with learning disabilities, and our Musication course for adults with multiple problems.
