About

Specialist Brass & Woodwind teacher Chris Waters has led Jorell’s Children's Brass & Woodwind Music Division since 2008, providing award winning lessons in schools in Sussex and Surrey, as well as delivering teaching masterclasses throughout England.

With twenty-four years experience teaching children from the age of seven the Trumpet, Cornet, Flugel Horn, Alto Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute from the early foundation years of playing through to Associated Board of the Royal Schools' of Music and Trinity Grade Examinaions and performances, Chris has built a fine reputation for inspirational high quality tuition.

In 2009 Midhurst Primary School nominated him for the Classic fM UK Peripatetic Music Teacher of the Year award and based on the evidence they provided, Chris won the Award and was presented with a voucher for £9,000 that November for instruments at the school during Music for Youth’s concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Countless parents and head teachers describe Chris as an inspirational teacher, with his pupils of all ages respecting him and enjoying their lessons immensely. “Music is fun” is central to Chris’s teaching style, in the music he arranges for his pupils and the performances he organises, from street busking to formal concerts.

Chris is innovative, with evidence of this being the Mercedes-powered Mobile Music Classroom he developed; thirty-feet long, eight-feet wide and packed full of inspirational resources enabling much-enjoyed weekly lesson experiences for his “young musicians” as he calls them, with help of course from his much-loved by the pupils assistant Baaaarry the Sheep, himself ABRSM Grade 1 Tuba with Distiction - yes, the ABRSM allowed a glove puppet to take an exam (with Chris's help) and received a proper certificate as evidence!
