Arts Leaders: Supporting Learning and Creativity in Music Technology Education

Join Yorkshire Sound Women Network for a day of professional development training in the area of teaching and learning for independent music technology educators.
This day is for educators who deliver workshops for young people, and who are interested in developing a deeper understanding about the relationship between social interaction, learning and development. The day includes one presentation followed by a series of activities designed to build on the existing experiences of attendees, while introducing research in the area of collaborative learning, social psychology, and creativity.
Aims
- To provide professional development in teaching and learning within music technology
- To create a platform for sharing practice
- To deliver and explore a social psychology model for teaching music technology
- To facilitate networking amongst arts leaders
Content
- Introduction to Practice Principles for collaborative learning in music technology: a model grounded in social psychology, and education research
- Workshop designed to deconstruct and explore the practice principles
- Discussion on teaching practice: pedagogy, liaising with commissioning organisation, pitching and promotion , email correspondence and strategies for workshop delivery, including risk assessing for technology failure
- Information about Yorkshire Sound Women Network
- Opportunity to network with other music technology education specialists
Participants can claim travel expenses of up to £25 for attending the event.
Workshop presenter
Dr Liz Dobson will deliver and facilitate sessions throughout the day. Since 1998 Liz has delivered music technology for 4 different Higher Education Institutions including Leeds College of Music and The University of Huddersfield, and more recently managed, and also taught workshops for girls aged 11+ across various projects. She is a musician, however following a period of retraining in social science and education research methods, Liz completed a PhD in Education and social psychology of creativity and learning music technology (with the Open University). In 2017 Liz became a National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and then University Principle Enterprise Fellow. She is also a co-founder and director of Yorkshire Sound Women Network.
