CLIC Sargent Residential Music Workshop 2017

CLIC Sargent ran their second Youth Music grant-funded residential workshop for young musicians with cancer in the summer. Projects within the charity's Music Programme are designed to raise confidence and self-esteem as part of their comprehensive Young People's Service offer to 16-24yr olds with cancer and their families.

The workshop was held at Stonar School in Wiltshire supported by other local and national partners including the Joe Gilligan Trust; Wiltshire Music Connect, Wiltshire Music Centre, Crest Studios, and Music For All. The young musicians and singers came from across the English regions and were supported by a terrific team of Music Leaders who provided a high ratio of professional mentorship skill. This year we were joined by Lucy Spraggan who helped with songwriting and industry advice sessions, and Poldark actor Tom York who gave useful insight into managing performance anxiety and audition tips. Our own Young People's Social Work team members supported participants, some of whom had their first opportunity to travel away from home and hospital to meet others with similar cancer experiences and to share musical interests. We arranged a pop-up recording studio to capture tracks written during the week as well as cover arrangements. Wiltshire Music Centre hosted the post-workshop performance. Dan Henchman from Youth Music publiched a fantastic case study from his experience of attending the workshop, meeting young musicians and Music Leaders see here
