About The Music Works and why we need this role
This is a new and shared role working for both The Music Works – TMW – (based in Gloucester) and Stroud Valley Artspace – SVA (based in Stroud). You’ll be employed by TMW but will work 2 days a week for each.
It’s a new role and we want you to focus on helping both teams set up and run new and existing events. For TMW this will be for young people, mainly in our new Hub (Click here for a virtual tour of our space) For the SVA it will be for all ages. We’d also really like it if you can link things up between our two venues – we’re open to ideas.

TMW uses music as a vehicle to transform the lives of young people from challenging circumstances. We’re just beginning to start doing events although we have been running King’s Jam Festival – the south west’s largest black music and diverse genres festival – for 5 years. SVA is a catalyst for local creative experimentation and collaboration and has been running amazing events in Stroud (and just starting in Gloucester) for many years. Both organisations are focused on enabling others (in this case, you) to get high quality, interesting creative stuff happening in local communities.
This is an apprenticeship role, so 20% of your time will be spent on training and development (this works out as nearly 1 day a week). Some of this will be with us and some of it will be with our training provider – Creative Access. At the end of the 21 months, you will take an end point assessment and gain a level 3 qualification as an Events Assistant (equivalent to 3 A Levels).

- Work with TMW team and SVA team to come up with ideas for events – working with our youth advisory group and other young people particularly
- Work with our teams to put them on and make them a success – supporting with organising, marketing, evaluation and anything else that might come up
- Support with King’s Jam Festival
- Promote events across all social media platforms (with the marketing team)
- Support with events’ logistics and administration
- Manage event set up, tear down and follow-ups
- Build and stick to an event budget
- Track event key performance areas and identify things to work on for future events
- Assist with creative decisions about events
- Attend event meetings
- Ad-hoc duties at events including, but not limited to, guest list management, taking coats, running the bar, venue cleaning and maintenance
- Maintain good relationships with the wider TMW and SVA teams, working with them to help raise awareness of their work.
- Be committed to putting young people at the heart of everything you do
- Stick to all TMW and SVA policies and practices
- Be responsible for turning up and getting involved in all relevant training and personal development
We don’t care about your existing qualifications we just want someone who is super creative, great with people and willing to throw themselves into things and get things done. This is an apprenticeship so you’ll get loads of training but we would like you to have the following:
- Experience of organising and helping out at events
- Creative and full of good ideas for events
- Good at connecting with people, especially young people, in person, by phone, by social media
- A real team player but also able to get on with things on your own
- Hard working and punctual
- Good on social media (particularly Instagram and TikTok) and experience of engaging with large numbers of people through these mediums
- Resourceful and able to deal with problems as they may arise
- A passion for music/the arts and a belief in its transformational powers for young people
- Live in Gloucestershire
It would also be good (although not essential) if you:
- Can drive
- Have bar experience
