DEBUT

The Urban Vocal Group and Music Fusion joined forces at The Spring Arts Centre on Tuesday 20th September to present DEBUT; an evening of original music written by young people aged 11 – 18.

An audience of 70 were treated to an eclectic mix of self-penned songs spanning a range styles from Rock, Rap and R 'n B to Indie and Pop. The UVG and Music Fusion work with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and circumstances and use music making to build confidence, self-esteem, increase tolerance, reduce exclusion and bring people together. The event was the first time that the 2 charities had worked together and both had the opportunity to talk about the life changing outcomes that their young people have achieved.

The Mayor of Havant attended the event and was so knocked out by the performances that she felt compelled to sing herself during her speech! Mayor Ponsonby also said that she “…was wowed by the talent and the emotions shown by every one of the singers... and there was such good support from all the group. Even though I had come straight from 2 days of conference, it was an invigorating show, and I loved being there.”

UVG Director Charlie Fletcher said “We can’t thank Youth Music enough for giving us the opportunity to showcase these young people. The confidence and professionalism of all the artists shone through and it was a pleasure to witness such superb local talent. Music is the catalyst for change in these young people and without Youth Music’s support they would not have the opportunity”
