How Night Came...

On Saturday 7th April 2018 the Kámoši Juniors Performing Arts Group performed ‘How Night Came’, a Brazilian folk tale told by Baba Yaga, Eastern Europe’s most famous witch.

The performance took audiences on a spell-binding journey to discover how night falls through music, storytelling, shadow puppetry and dance. Night, from the deep seas, meets Light, from the Earth. Could they both find a place to call home?

Created and performed by children aged 5 to 11 years, the event brought the local community together in a vibrant celebration of International Roma Day. The children worked with professional musicians, a drama worker and a choreographer to devise this magical performance; fusing upbeat Latin Rhythms with haunting Chinese flute, Hip Hop and Eastern European folk music.

The sold-out event was held at the Turnpike Centre in Leigh and was supported by Wigan Music Service, Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS), Leigh Central Primary School, St Peters C.E. Primary School, and Leigh Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School.
