Summer Music at Chapel FM

This Summer, Chapel FM hosted our Summer Music Course. Due to the pandemic, the sessions were mostly held on zoom, with some well being walks which the group used as inspiration fro their music and with one face to face jam session at Roundhay Park Bandstand. This gave the group the chance to play music that they had been composing from their own homes, in a group setting.

We used software such as MuseScore and SoundTrap for the compositions and the group showed amazing composition skills on their chosen platforms. One young person is taking her piece from Sountrap to work on for her application to Breeze Has Got Talent.

The group worked really hard, learning about musical movements, musical genres, digital music making and composing and distance music collaborations to create young people's music shows for our "Red Kite" radio show, our lock down radio shows for young people. The participants were involved in the show's content, hosting live on the radio and behind the scenes tech support.

The group also played musical games on zoom, conducted interviews with musicians and music organisations, such as an interview with Jim From DJ Scchool Leeds, (included in the soundtrap recordings)

It has been a challenging time for all of us but we have been blessed at Chape FM to have the medium of radio to keep going throught these testing times and stay engaged with the community, keeping our young participants making music and learning new skills. The next musical journey we will be embarking on will be our 24 hour Musicathon which will be held online on 12-13th Dec. Our Next Gen Music group will be working towards performing for this. Here is a link to on of our youth music shows ,part of Red Kite Radio. Hope you enjoy!
