Baby Talk - Naturally Musical?

The BBC Radio 4 Programme 'Word of Mouth' discussed speech development on Monday, 6 January 2014.

Michael Rosen is looking at speech development in his current programme, and in yesterday's series he shared an example of a mother talking to her newborn baby (and the baby 'talking' back), which turned out to be a musical form of communication.

The programme went on to ask whether using 'baby talk' was beneficial or not in the development of speech and it was looking at non-verbal communication, for example. So, a series full of food for thought!

I would like to invite members of this group to listen to this broadcast here as well, and share their thoughts and experience in communicating with young children. To which extent do people feel that there is a natural musicality in communicating with babies (and vice versa!)? I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences and thoughts!
