Independent Chair

Job description

South East London Music Hub are looking to appoint an independent Chair for their new Hub Advisory Group. This voluntary role will make a substantial contribution to the strategic development of music education for children and young people across South East London. We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants with relevant experience and interests.

Context

Since 2012, Music Education Hubs have provided a wide range of activity for children and young people in their respective boroughs. An organisation in each local authority/council area has been funded to be the 'lead partner' for the area's Music Hub. This funding comes from Department for Education with Arts Council England as the fund holder.

When the new National Plan for Music Education was published in June 2022, it included an ambition for there to be a smaller number of Music Hub's across England. After a consultation process, Arts Council England published this map showing the new Hub areas reduced from 117 to 43. The South-East London Hub area comprises the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark.

The existing lead organisations in South East London came together as a consortium to write a bid and in April 2024 we heard that our application was successful.

From 1st September 2024, SEL Music Education Limited (a Company Limited by Guarantee) will become the Hub Lead Organisation for South East London Music Hub.

The Principal Partners of the South East London Music Hub will be:

  • Bexley Music (part of London South East Academies Trust)
  • Bromley Youth Music Trust
  • Greenwich Music Service (part of Royal Borough of Greenwich
  • Council)
  • Lambeth Music Service (part of Lambeth Council)
  • Lewisham Music
  • Southwark Music (part of Southwark Council)
