The Irene Taylor Trust is celebrating a decade of 'Making Tracks' with a special showcase performance

Event description

Join us to celebrate a decade of ‘Making Tracks’ and ‘Sounding Out’ with a special showcase performance at Rich Mix, featuring musicians we have worked with over the last ten years.

The Irene Taylor Trust has been inspiring people of all ages through our ‘Music in Prisons’ projects since 1995; in 2012 we extended this work into the community with two new programmes, ‘Making Tracks’ and ‘Sounding Out’.

‘Making Tracks’ brought the benefits of our experience of working with children and young people in custodial settings into the community, aiming to reach those experiencing challenging circumstances, including those engaging with youth offending teams, experiencing homelessness, or finding themselves not in education, employment or training and struggling with how to move on. Initially based in South London, with support over the last decade from numerous funders including Youth Music, the programme has expanded to other parts of London, Kent, Bristol and Manchester. Following the creative projects, all the young people are offered personal progression support, including referrals onto projects we have developed such as our Young Producers scheme, Young Project Leader Training and new Emerging Artists programme.

Vitally, ‘Making Tracks’ gives the young people the opportunity to find their voices as songwriters, performers and musicians. The resulting original music gives a unique insight into the lives of people who are often marginalised and undervalued; they have important stories to tell, experiences and talent that audiences need to hear and see. Our showcase at Rich Mix on 15th September will be an opportunity to celebrate them.

Tickets are £5. If you are not able to join us in person there is the option to book to attend via livestream on a 'pay what you can afford' basis.

“I worked with amazing, talented people that made my writing easy and brought out my creativity," young artist on ‘Making Tracks’

“I was sceptical at first but I’m glad I gave it a chance because it was one of the best things I’ve done in my life,” young artist on ‘Making Tracks’
