Multicultural Music Making Training Programme

What is MMM?

 

Multicultural Music Making is a high quality music in education programme for

young people in Birmingham and Walsall. Each week, groups of young musicians work

with professional musicians to explore a range of music traditions and develop a critical

engagement with international sounds. MMM started in 2015 with the hope

‘to change the way music is taught in schools’. The project now takes place in five

primary schools in the West Midlands, with the aim of branching out to secondary

schools later this academic year. 

 

What is the MMM training programme?

This programme is for people who are passionate about music in education and

exploring alternative ways of approaching creative music making with children.

We are looking for individuals who share our ethos and enthusiasm, with availability

for training days and session dates between March-June 2018.

The programme will include:

introduction to MMM practice and ethnomusicological principles

ensemble work and group training

presentations from visiting artists within this field

opportunities to assist workshops and deliver activities

individual mentoring, including signposting to further opportunities with Friction Arts and other

peers / stakeholders  

Timeline

Application deadline: Monday 19th March 2018 - 12pm (noon)

Introductory day: Wednesday 28th March 2018

Following the introductory day, Friction Arts will be inviting up to 6 brilliant candidates to join the full MMM training programme, to be confirmed by Wednesday 4th April 2018. Successful  candidates will then be invited to attend MMM workshops in schools, with further team training sessions on Wednesdays 11th April; 2nd May; and 6th June 2018.

Fee

A fee of £200 is payable to all candidates who attend all 6 days within the full training programme.
