Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) is pleased to announce the launch of our 2015 Awards programme, where young instrumentalists making music in any genre can apply for help with their music costs.
Our help transforms young people’s musical lives and their whole futures. Here’s George, who received an Award from AYM for the first time in 2014:
This is a thank you letter from George. Yesterday I played my first solo on my new cello. The cello was amazing and it made an extraordinary sound, it was rich and seemed to vibrate for miles!! I feel really really happy with my new cello and it made me feel more confident and special. Lots and lots of people came up to me yesterday to comment on how well I played, one woman came up to me and she said I played so beautifully that I made her cry. Another said I really inspired her to get her son to play the cello and that made me feel very influential because all I have ever wanted to do was inspire people. I love my new bow - it makes such a big sound and it is very rich. With my old bow I had to work really hard just to make a nice sound because it had hardly any hair on it.
As for my case I don’t worry as much now that my cello is not going to get damaged. This is such a big relief as this has happened a lot in the past. This is a very very very big thank you to you for being so kind enough of giving me this wonderful cello!

Thank you to you and everyone at AYM for your support over so many years. I simply couldn't have done what I've done without your help. The money is important, yet it is only really one side of the story. AYM also provides encouragement for young musicians and most importantly of all, you believe in us and that belief can be the thing that makes all the difference to our aspirations and ambitions. I cannot thank you enough.
