Medical Notes and Songbirds - Sharing our Research Findings

Medical Notes and Songbirds Sharing our Research Findings https://www.salford.ac.uk/research/care/research-groups/cyp@salford

The Youth Music-funded Medical Notes research project at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (2011/12) and Music-making with Hospitalised Children (Songbirds 2016) projects demonstrated how the provision of opportunities to engage in co-creative live music sessions with Music for Health practitioners improved children’s and young people’s (CYP) psychological and social wellbeing during hospitalisation. The findings demonstrated that both projects had substantially enhanced the provision of music activity, that CYP had experienced significant musical, social, personal and emotional development and that the emerging Music for Health workforce had been strengthened through training and knowledge sharing.   It is this knowledge and insight that will be shared at the Research Impact funded events in partnership with the University of Salford. We will also explore the potential benefits for children and young people with autism spectrum disorders and how music may help them access health.

Our next events will be: 16th May at Media City (11-2.30pm)                                                      30th May at Ronald MacDonald House (11-2.30pm) 6th June at Royal Northern College for Music (11-2.30pm)
