Sound City Music Entrepreneur Training in Widnes

Sound City Music Entrepreneurs Training is free for anyone with a burning desire to work in the music industry to attend. We have run the programmes since 2012 and have to date reached over 350 young people throughout the Liverpool City region.  Attendees have gone on to work at companies including Sony, Glastonbury Festival, Sunday Best Recordings, Nintendo.

Our aim is to reach young people from very diverse backgrounds across the Liverpool City Region with them as we feel very passionately that there are young people who would love to work in music who are being denied the opportunity to as they don’t have access.   From October to December, we ran a cohort of the Music Entrepreneur Training in Widnes, which was part funded by Youth Music. It comprised a 12 week course with music tutors and industry e.g. Louisa Roach - Artist, She Drew the Gun, Shell Zenner - BBC Introducing, Mike Murphy - Ditto Music, plus mentoring and internships at Sound City for 30 young people.  Feedback from the young people has been excellent with young people stating how the course helped to develop their confidence and gave them new skills:

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the Sound City Training Course over the past 10 weeks and have met some great people. I have found every session highly informative — especially when the subject matter was contextualised with Gary and Kojo’s own musical experiences. On a personal level I feel that the course has particularly emphasised the need for versatility and foresight in order to succeed in the music industry. As these are two traits I believe to already possess, Sound City Training has given me the confidence to dive into an industry that only a few months ago seemed largely impenetrable. I would like to thank Gary and Kojo for their excellent tutorship over the past 10 weeks, and I look forward to cultivating the knowledge that they have passed on."  - Sean Fay

"Over the past 10 weeks I have gradually understood the reality of the music industry in many ways. I have gained new knowledge that will help me in certain factors along my music journey such as the social media and technology side to it. I am very grateful to have had this amazing opportunity to learn so many new things, and to meet many musicians who have shared their journey to where they are now." - Lucy McDiarmid.

Curriculum Tutor, Kojo Osei, said: “I am really proud of all the students involved and the professionalism and dedication they’ve shown in attending & getting everything they can out of the Sound City Training course. Not only will they walk away with a wealth of knowledge direct from industry profession, but they’ll also have gained invaluable experience of what it takes to make head way in the music scene...primarily in the NW of England. This is also underpinned with the fundamental knowledge of the core aspects involved of being in the music business in an entrepreneurial capacity.”
