I’m a writer and communications practitioner, specialising in working with organisations with a social, public or creative purpose – particularly in music. Although I work for a wide range of organisations, promoting the social/educational value of music is what I'm most passionate about. My work involves anything from copywriting for advocacy, to working with young people to help them tell their stories, to developing newsletters, brochures, websites and communications and marketing strategy and campaigns.
Since January 2016 I've been working 1-2 days a week as part of the management team for The Music Works , a community music charity based in Gloucestershire which transforms lives through music. See www.themusicworks.org.uk
I recently worked with the Musical Inclusion national evaluation and networking team as social media editor - helping to build a community of practice online; and have also been working with a number of Musical Inclusion projects (Bristol Colston Hall - research; Swindon Wiltshire and Gloucestershire (SWAG) - comms) and a number of hubs (Gloucestershire, Surrey, Leicestershire, Brighton).
Prior to this, my music/arts education work has included: four years working with Make Music Gloucestershire, the county's music education hub as their communications lead and a member of the commissioning team; writing for Music Education UK; research for Gloucestershire Music (Education) Forum (now ) into youth music-making in the county; website development for Gloucestershire Music Service; communications for Dance Blast community dance organisation; storyseeker/comms consultancy for Creative Partnerships, Forest of Dean; copywriting and editing for Dynamix, the youth participation co-operative based in Swansea and for the (then) Department for Children, Schools and Families; Head of Communications for Sound Sense, the community music development agency; Marketing Manager for St David's Hall, Cardiff.
