Best Websites For Learning Guitar

There are so many options available these days when it comes to learning the guitar. Thankfully there are some amazing sites that can really help guitar learners and teachers improve their playing and even help to learn more songs. After speaking to Rahul Joshi at Guitar Lessons York, He & I have found a few that we would recommend from experience and talking to other guitar teachers.

Ultimate Guitar

This website has been a staple of all guitar players for the past 15 or so years. Over the years the site has changed and adapted. It used to only offer user made tabs but these days also supports guitar pro and has their own official tabs provided so you know what you are learning is accurate. There is also a great blog area where there are plenty of interviews with well known artists and guitarists alike. Ultimate guitar was always my go to when I was learning and it really shows no signs of slowing down.

Artist Works Guitar

Artistworks has a wide range of lessons with well known artists. Even greats like paul gilbert have made lessons on this site. Its Video Exchange Learning Platform connects pupils with their teachers to create the sort of personalised feedback that creates a more social online learning experience that can only accelerate a player’s development. You do have to pay for this site but it does have a tiered system so you should find a plan that works for you. If you prefer video based learning then this is the best site for you.

Orange Learn

Orange learn is a new platform with an aim to rival the likes of rockschool for graded exams. This is one of the best options if you want to go down the route of learning all aspects of guitar as well as theory. They have some great lesson plans and have plenty of videos to go with the lessons & you’ll take a well thought out step by step approach to learning the guitar. One of the newest aspects to orange learn is its partnership with Mgr Music(https://mgrmusic.com/learn/) where you can also ask questions or book lessons with a professional teacher.

Guitar Tricks

Guitar tricks is probably the most well known site on this list. Launched in 1998, it is one of the oldest and most comprehensive guitar tuition sites around, boasting an archive of 11,000 lessons, with more than 700 songs.Overall, the website is slick and easy to navigate, while the new video player is simple to get to grips with. This player makes learning easy, with advanced functions such as slow motion and A/B looping, while most of the videos are filmed in 4K. They have around 32 tutors that you can take lessons with which is great for all potential learners.

Youtube

Youtube is often a bit of a jungle when it comes to learning to play the guitar but for every bad video there are often some gems as well. I think that youtube has both positives and negatives when it comes to learning to play. There are some amazing channels for learning guitar, I would recommend Artistworks, AndyGuitar, MartyMusic, Music Is Win & Jam Play. There are also many channels that can help you with recording and even understanding of theory. Just be well prepared to sift through a lot of videos for hours sometimes before you find something useful! But once you do, it’s often well worth the search.
